ONLY THE LIVING CAN MOURN

Only the living can mourn
But I no longer mourn
This is dumb and insane
The skies are cloudy as with rain
A rain of death destruction and accompanying pain.
Mother will cry no longer
For she could not outrun the hail
A hail of death and destruction as our defences fail.
Brother will run no longer
For he couldn’t escape the draft
A draft of death, destruction and the living bereft
Sister will hide no longer
A bomb took out the shelter
A bombardment of death, destruction and accompanying disaster
Ever stoic father peeks out the burrow
Beyond the town, the city, clouds of dust and tar
Will it end today or in the morrow,
He wonders as the bombs roar
I mourn no longer
Only the living can mourn
I fight no longer
Only the living can fight
I died the day the war began
The war he started because he can.
